Habitat destruction is often the cause of the decline of a species. Human behaviors like the clear cutting of forests destroys vast swaths of territory for all types of life forms. The pieces you are viewing were painted on discarded and reclaimed wooden furniture and architectural salvage. I have painted in a style influenced by iconic portraiture as an homage to these creatures who have become endangered or extinct due to human indifference. It is my aim to encourage the viewer to consider the plight of these subjects and perhaps support the organizations that strive to protect and preserve them.
